La Bollina has been the home of noble Genoese families for around a century. The property extends for over 120 hectares, in a landscape of gently sloping land covered by vineyards and chestnut woods.
In addition to the Agricultural Business, which manages 33 hectares of vineyards and a well-equipped wine cellar, there are also three very stylish hotels on the estate:
- an Art Nouveau villa which has been turned into a 4-star luxury hotel, with adjoining grounds and a conference centre,
- a modern 4-star hotel, and to please all golf lovers,
- a 9-hole course among the vineyards.
The growing conditions vary on different parts of the estate. The white grape varieties are grown exclusively on marly-clay soils and on south-west slopes, while the black grape varieties are grown on the red soil of the hills near Novi Ligure, and mainly face south.
La Bollina’s philosophy is simple and straightforward; it involves showing respect for the surrounding environment by investing in vineyards, agronomic practices and equipment and, more especially, promoting our brand by linking it closely to the local area.
An important turning-point for La Bollina was our encounter with the oenologist Andrea Bernardini, an expert young technician who has worked with some top-level producers. Since his arrival, all our wines have progressively improved, and it was at his instigation that we renovated and refurbished the wine cellar.
In a similar way we have upgraded our packaging, creating special labels for three wines as a tribute to the bicycle, indicating how our passion for wine is inseparably linked to the land of great champions such as Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo.
Nowadays, the wines produced by La Bollina have a clean, well-balanced and very pleasing taste: modern wines but deeply rooted in the local area.
